"Superstorm Sandy Update"
I wish to extend my sincere "Thank You" to all of our wonderful guests and friends who called, emailed and stopped by to check on our status after Sandy. Our grand old Beacon House is a tough lady. Sandy literally knocked at our door and we turned away a most unwelcome guest. During the worst of the storm surge that was 14 feet greater than normal, the Atlantic ocean rushed up Beacon Boulevard and reached our front porch steps. Sea foam splattered the houses like a thick yellow snow and buildings, debris, and floated by in the raging river that was the street. Wave heights in excess of 25 feet pounded our Sea Girt beach. We recorded wind gusts of 100 mph and endured sustained winds of 60 mph for more than 8 hours. Power was out for 10 days and even cell phone service was non-existent. Sadly, the boardwalk was completely destroyed. Both the Main House and the Summer House incurred some minor damage, but nothing structural and, miraculously, no flooding --- nothing that can't be repaired in the next few weeks. It is incredulous to see the utter devastation that this storm wreaked upon our neighboring towns. We are blessed to have dodged Sandy's bullet and pray that you and your families fared well.
